The pro's need to add weight to theirs to weigh at the UCI minimum 6.8kg. Lucky for you, the UCI commissaires are not lurking outside your door with a scale.

The R5 is popular amongst pro riders because it's super-light, super-stiff, and looks like a classic road bike. And the choice has gotten easier thanks to Squoval 3 tubing. Even if they might look indistinguishable at a glance, the new R5 is more aero than the old R5. The tubing profiles have been tweaked, with a more aero leading edge and trailing edges that smooth out the transition from tube to empty space. This thinking has been employed everywhere, from the fork to the seat stays, and it nets you a 7.4 watt savings.

The bike is also stiffer and more compliant than the old R5. The fork blades have gotten a stealth redesign, with a more aero profile, greater vertical compliance, and greater torsional stiffness, and this is combined with the tapered steerer and the building out of the head tube to net 15% increase in torsional stiffness. And at the bottom bracket, thanks to the extra size of the BBright standard, you get a 9.5% increase in stiffness. And the frame is still lighter than the old R5.

As we wrote, this is pretty much how the pro's ride this bike. There are a few differences. The eleven-speed Dura-Ace Di2 is run with a battery inside the FSA seat post for a cleaner look. The Rotor 3D+ BBright crank is fitted with semi-compact chain rings, 52/36 for a wider range. The 11-25 cassette and chain are Ultegra eleven-speed for some savings. Wheels here are an everyday set, albeit one that is aluminum for consistent braking, and the trifecta of aero, light, and low rolling resistance. That's the magic of C2 thinking behind the Hed Ardennes Plus LT wheelset. Dressed in Continental Grand Prix 25mm tires, the rubber is comfortable and light.

One thing the pro's don't have to worry about is the future. They get new bikes every year. You need to make sure your bike works today and tomorrow. This is why Cervélo designed Future Proof cable routing. This bike is configured for electronic shifting and mechanical braking. But by pulling out some plugs and inserting new ones, you can run hydraulic braking. Or mechanical shifting. And Cervélo figured out a cool thing when setting up this convenient aero option; the top of the down tube is less stressed than the sides, making it smarter to insert the cables there. Same with how they figured out how to run the rear brake cable through the frame. And how they straightened out the right chain stay enough to run a cable through the stay easily.

This bike is finished of with FSA stem and bars and Fizik saddle,

The Cervélo R5 Dura-Ace Di2 Bike adds the ease of electronic shifting to a super light road bike.
