Bike Geometry
2016 BMC Teammachine SLR01 Ultegra Bike
By building up this BMC Teammachine SLR01 frameset with Shimano Ultegra 6800 mechanical group set, BMC is letting you have a bike that has more frame for your dollar by saving on parts.

The frame is the WorldTour-ridden workhorse of the BMC pro team. It's among the lightest frames on the market. Naturally, it's also super-stiff. But that stiffness doesn't come at a cost of comfort; BMC was able to build in 10% more vertical compliance than the previous SLR01, while still saving weight. This is why the frame is savored climbers, sprinters, and rouleurs. They get great power transmission and immediate response while still enjoying all-day comfort. You can see the twin missions with the 1 1/4" lower steerer, the oversized down tube, BB86 bottom bracket and tall chain stays mated to the slender triangulated seat stays, and the proprietary carbon-fiber seat post that is the final piece of the comfort puzzle.

Shimano Ultegra, where BMC economizes on this bike, is hardly a sacrifice in terms of performance. 6800 is basically Dura-Ace 9000 fabricated out of less-expensive materials and possessing a less flashy finish. Same ergonomics at the levers, same shifting geometries, with faster action than earlier iterations. The new dual-pivot brakes improve modulation and work better with wide rims. The eleven-speed 11-28 cogset is paired with a mid-compact 52/36 crank for a huge range of gears. The four-arm crank design, with a hollow-two-piece big ring is stiffer than any single-plate big ring you can find.

BMC provides the bars and stem. As this bike is the cost-conscious version of the SLR01, the bars and stem work the same at the 3T’s on the team bikes, just without the cost. Like the team, you get a Fizik Arione saddle, this one with manganese rails.

The wheels with this bike are the DT Swiss R23 Splines. Spline refers to their straight-pull hubs, which are light, strong, and run on long-lasting, smooth bearings. The bladed, double-butted spokes keep the weight down and give you an aero edge. And the wide, shallow rim, a modern box section with a 23mm width, 23mm depth, and aero curve to the spoke side is light, stable, and tubeless compatible. They shod the wheels in the fastest rubber around: Continental GP4000s tires.

The BMC Teammachine SLR01 Ultegra Bike is the body of a world champ with the accouterments of a smart shopper.
