Garmin Vector 3S Power Pedals
The differences between the Garmin Vector 3 and 3S are twofold. The 3S comes with power-measuring hardware in the left pedal only, which saves you a bundle. And you can still upgrade to the Vector 3 by buying a single right-side power pedal at a later date.

Garmin upgraded to the Vector 3 design because they wanted their pedals to be easier to use, more accessible, and more pro. They designed the pedal body in house so they could control the aesthetics as well as where the power hardware goes. Part of their mandate was to make it so they’d be easier to set up and easier to transport. So not only have the external pods of earlier iterations disappeared, but you don’t even need a torque wrench when installing the pedals. Just use a pedal wrench to get them tight enough for you to be able to take off at a later date.

The pedals are sleek and light, 324g for the set, with adjustable release tension for the cleat-release spring. The stack height is 12.2mm and connects with a Look Keo-style cleat. The Q-factor is 53 or 55mm—it depends on whether or not you need to run the included spacer so that the pedal spindle stub, which is part of the system and even has built-in LEDs to apprise you that the system is on, is no closer than 2mm from the chainstays. The user-replaceable batteries, two LR44’s in the left side power sensing pedal, go into the pedal at the end cap on the outside of the pedal spindle.

The pedal sends power data for up to 120 hours. It sends both ANT+ and Bluetooth signals, so you can mate the pedals with any head unit or smartphone. Garmin also uses the Bluetooth to connect with the Garmin app you can download, which is a way to check and update firmware.

Because the left pedal is the only power-sensing instrument on the bike, it isn’t necessarily as accurate as having both pedals sending data. If you favor your right side over your left, the numbers will read a bit low, if you favor your left, the numbers will read a bit high. However, it’s important to remember that consistency is more important than accuracy. As such, the numbers should be consistent because your pedal stroke will most likely remain the same.

Calibration is something you should do at the start of every ride. You want to be off the bike and have the cranks parallel to the ground before calibrating.

One important note, the maximum rider weight for the pedals is 105kg, or 231lbs.

The Garmin Vector 3S Power Meter Pedals come with cleats and mounting hardware as well as a quick-start manual. If, at a later date, you want to have dual-sided measuring, you can purchase the Vector 3S Upgrade Pedal.
