A Legend Arrives at R&A: The 2017 Intense Tracer

The original Intense Tracer long ago went down as one of the most capable machines ever to carve a trail. Lightweight but indestructible, plush but responsive, and nimble but stable, the Tracer is coveted by a core of enthusiasts who've seen many imitators come and go. To them, and to the world of mountain biking, this is big news: the completely-redesigned 2017 Tracer has landed. Leaner, meaner, with more travel, better stiffness, and a much improved suspension platform, the new Tracer is ready to become a legend all over again.

So what makes the all-new 2017 Intense Tracer a future legend?

All-New Chassis

With 160mm of travel in front and 165mm in the rear, riding on 27.5-inch wheels, the Tracer can't be sloppy; it needs to be sharp and responsive. Intense's engineers collaborated with the famous Cero Design Studio in Barcelona to create a unique masterpiece of trail bike performance. The completely revised carbon chassis improves upon the old Tracer in all the ways that matter: it's lighter, stiffer, and stronger. With 160mm of travel in front and 165mm in the rear, the frame needs to be sharp and responsive.

Better at the Bumps

Using carbon linkages, the Tracer's all-new Enduro Link rear suspension platform operates on what's called a "continuously rising" compression rate. It reacts intelligently, progressively, and proportionally to suspension inputs, rather than simply pushing back against compression forces, as on less sophisticated designs. Small impacts allow gentle compressions for smoothness, while bigger hits illicit firmness later in the suspension's travel, to encourage stability and greater control after large impacts or landings.

By Riders, For Riders

Intense takes the time to curate parts on their bikes that they know you would install yourself if you could. From the top-spec Factory model to the entry-level Foundation version, every complete Tracer build makes the most of your money, so you don't have to spend more on upgrades later. Even many of Intense's sponsored athletes ride most of their bikes right out of the box, with little or no modification.

Evolved Geometry

The new Tracer's evolution didn't stop with heavily revised suspension or the all-new carbon structure. Engineers at Intense and Cero took the time to update the bike's geometry in meaningful ways, to make it more stable on descents without sacrificing the nimbleness that made the bike famous to begin with. The Tracer is still able to climb comfortably, as well, thanks to the geometry's balance and the efficiency of the Enduro Link system.
