2018 BMC Teammachine SLR02 Disc ONE Bike <p>The BMC Teammachine SLR02 Rim and Disc Brake Framesets benefit from all the efforts BMC puts into building WorldTour beating bikes. All the knowledge, all the modeling, all the testing gets poured into making the SLR01 the very leading edge of the pack is then revised to make the SLR02 that much better than before. What you get here is a bike that comes out of the same molds, but uses more economical carbon-fiber plies. </p> <p>The result is an SLR02 that rides almost identically to the SLR01, but it just a bit heavier. For the rim-brake version in a 54, the frame weighs 1015g, the fork 375g. The disc-brake version is 1045g and 405g. </p> <p>The differences between the rim and disc versions are almost entirely in the braking means and the weight. BMC made every effort to dial in the geometry and the ride so you can switch between the two bikes, if you desire, almost seamlessly. The rear stays were lengthened by 8mm to better fit the brakes, and it also provided the benefit of allowing you to fit 28mm tires. The frame, btw, has been designed around riding 25mm tires. </p> <p>The 25mm tires might well be a tell. BMC has designed this bike to be balanced. Stiff and light and compliant. Stable, but still precise. Their ACE computer modeling allowed them to play with lay-ups and shapes without ever committing to building a mold. That way they figured out how to improve compliance and increase bottom bracket stiffness at the same time. Comfort on a stiff bike is a big deal: the stiffness helps both with steering and power transfer, anyone can build stiff, but compliance damps vibrations and bumps, leaving you fresher longer. BMC also designed the seatpost to help with eating up the bumps. Not only do they utilize the same D-shaped carbon-fiber compliance post as the SLR01 (only 195g, with a 15mm setback, a zero setback post is also available), but they also utilize the same seatpost clamp, which is down inside the frame, giving the post more room to flex when eating up the chatter.</p> <p>Both bike have DTI, Dual Transmission Integration, to keep the bike as clean and aero as possible. There&rsquo;s a plate at the top of the downtube, just behind the head tube, which is where cables go in, or electronic wires, including a Shimano Di2 charging port, or it can be covered over completely for SRAM&rsquo;s eTap shifting. If you go for the rim-brake version, the rear brake cable runs inside the top tube. If you go with mechanical shifting on either bikes, there are flexible fiberglass tubes running inside the frame to guide the cables and keep them oriented properly and quiet. </p> <p>The frame also comes with a replaceable front derailleur mount and ultra light replaceable rear derailleur mount. The fork has a tapered 1 1/8&rdquo; to 1 ½&rdquo; steerer. The bottom bracket is BB86.</p> <p>The disc brake version comes with flat-mount disc-brake mounts. There&rsquo;s a 12 x 100mm front axle and 12 x 142mm rear axle. The axles are tapered and weigh 70g for the set. The fork is designed for a 160mm rotor. The stays are designed to work with either 140 or 160mm rotors. </p> <p>The rim brake version saves weight and increases performance by utilizing direct-mount brakes. Shimano, TRP, and Campagnolo all have versions that work with this standard. </p> <p>The Teammachine SLR02, both disc and rim versions leverages BMC&rsquo;s world-beating insights to create a bike that has few peers.</p>
