Bike Geometry
2015 BMC TeamElite TE02 29 XO1 Bike
Big wheels call for their own geometry. That's why BMC dialed in their Big Wheel Concept before they debuted their 29ers. The Teamelite TE02 29 X01 bike shows what happens when you take that BWC geometry, built it up with a World Cup worthy mold, and equip it with top-shelf parts. The bike is stable, has great traction, and the wheels always feel under you, tamed and controlled. You get an unbelievable ride that still has you feeling smart.

BMC knows that after putting the rider in the right position, they have to precisely control the stiffness in both the vertical and horizontal planes for the bike to ride well. That's why the TE01 mold creates extensive shaping of the tubes. They call it Tuned Compliance Concept (TCC), and it means that the bike gives vertically in the rear for comfort and traction and resists laterally for better steering and drive train efficiency. They even install a BMC Compliancepost to further enhance riding comfort. The difference between the TE02 and TEO1 is that the 02 substitutes lower modulus carbon-fiber cloth, resulting in more of it getting used to keep the stiffness up.

Helping achieve the ride goals of the frame are the 1 1/8" to 1 1/2" head tube and wide BB90 bottom bracket. It also has integrated chain protection both above and behind the crank, and replaceable, integrated post mounts (Natural Born Post Mounts in BMC-speak) for the rear brake.

Taking charge of the steering duties are Fox's 100mm travel 32 Float CTD Remote E-S fork with 15mm thru-axle. CTD is an acronym for Climb Trail Descend, and they are settings on the handlebar-mounted remote. Set yourself up before the challenge, change when you realize you made a mistake, switch back, when you realize you were right all along.

This bike comes equipped with components from SRAM's X01 group. This sports a single 30-tooth chain ring paired with an eleven-speed 10-42 cassette, for light and fast shifts. The group is matched with SRAM's Guide R brakes, with 180/160mm rotors. Guides use four pistons to stop effectively with only a single finger controlling the action.

The wheels are DT Swiss' X1700 Splines. Starting with their great hubs and spokes, DT Swiss has laced them to a wide, tough, alloy rim that is tubeless compatible. The rubber is Continental's Race King 2.2 Performance tires. These are hardpack-favoring race tires with small knobs that dig well, rubber that is sticky on rocks, and a folding bead.

The BMC TeamElite TE02 29 XO1 Bike makes its biggest difference on the trail.
