Giro Selector Aero Helmet
The Selector, Giro's latest aerodynamic helmet for triathlon and time trial use, offers attachments that snap in along the tail to ensure that the helmet works for your body and its position on the bike. Not everyone's body is the same, and Giro thinks the helmet should be able to morph to the rider. This is the helmet you've seen gracing a slew of WorldTour riders – for good reason. Giro tested the Selector in wind tunnels, and pro riders corroborated those findings in the real world.

A 10-millimeter tail attachment works for taller riders with a flat back, while a 45-millimeter attachment is better suited to those with a hunched back. Change out the rear helmet attachment to best suit your position, or even to make an adjustment for course conditions. Perhaps on a course with more climbing, where you're more upright, you'll want the taller tail section, for example.

The front shield comes in different tints – the gray/silver flash color is included – and provides unmatched, uninterrupted peripheral vision and protection. The shield actually helps to direct air flow into the helmet's venting channels, and two large ports at the rear of the helmet expunge the warm air. The result is cooler body temps and better performance. If you prefer sunglasses, just pop the shield out and you're good to go.

One weakness of many time trial and triathlon helmets is the difficulty of getting into it, and the frequency that the helmets crack along the ear pieces when a rider pulls them out to get his or her head in there. Giro solved this problem. Selector ear pieces are extremely flexible – something that benefits everyone, but is a particular boon for triathletes who need a quick transition.

Giro uses the “TT” version of its top-notch Roc Loc 5 fit system to provide quick and easy tightening and loosening with one-handed, dial-turn simplicity. The entire strap that cradles the back of the head can also move 15 millimeters vertically so that it fits a variety of head shapes and sits properly – and comfortably – at the base of the skull.

Giro fuses the EPS foam liner to the Selector's polycarbonate shell with its In Mold construction. The result is lighter, yet still quite strong and durable. And the lightweight Thermoformed SL Roll Cage adds reinforcement to the shell in case of impact. Like all of Giro's helmets, the Selector is CPSC safety certified.

Antimicrobial X-Static padding dries out quickly and prevents bacteria, mold, or stench from forming, and the silver fibers in the pads help to dissipate heat, too. Removable EVA pads help you to customize the fit of the helmet to your head. Lightweight and Giro's Slimline buckle keep the helmet comfortably in place. The Giro Selector weighs 385 grams in the small/medium size, and the shield adds only approximately 20 grams.

Have the need for speed? Select the Selector, dial in the best setup for your position, and go set some PRs.
