Intense Tracer Factory Bike
Intense Cycles’ Tracer is the brand’s most popular bike. It took supreme confidence for them to mess with success. And they succeeded, after spending three years dialing in the design. It had to be more of everything. The new Intense Tracer has evolved from a great trail bike to a super enduro ride that can have fun wherever you take it.

To get to this place, Intense updated the geometry. This is called rider-forward design. They’ve made the front-center dimension longer, they made the head tube slacker, 65.5-degrees, the recommended stem length shorter, 40mm. This moves the head tube a bit closer to the rider, helping improve both balance and stability. On the seat angle side, it’s steep at an effective75-degrees (71-degrees actual), you can sit further back, relatively speaking, and feel that your arms and lungs have room to breathe and move when you climb. The wheelbase has gained an inch of length, making high speeds more stable. The design comes from founder Jeff Steber and Cesar Rojo of Cero Design Studio in Spain.

There are several different build packages. All feature a molded carbon-fiber frame and rear triangle, with the pricier models featuring a molded carbon-fiber upper link and the others an alloy upper link. The frames themselves also change a bit over the line, with the pricier frames using higher-modulus carbon to reduce weight, though all come out of the same molds. The standard frame weighs 6.15 lbs, while the SL Superlight frame weighs 5.7lbs. The Factory build comes in at 27 pounds, light for its class.

Travel for the bike is 165mm in back, 160mm in front. The rear end utilizes a new JS Tuned Virtual Pivot Point design. JS VPP’s are now throughout the Intense lineup, with each possessing a leverage curve designed to fit the purpose of the bike. With the Tracer, it is slow as it reaches the halfway point and then steepens progressively for the rest of the way. The pivots run on both radial and angular-contact bearings, meaning that there’s plenty of lateral stiffness as well as smooth movement of the links,

The bike is set up with all the latest standards. The wheels are 27.5” (650b), as all enduro bikes should have. The head tube is set up for a 1 1/8” to 1.5” tapered steerer. The geometry is based on a 552mm lower leg length fork with 42mm of offset. There’s internal cable routing, including routing for a 31.6mm diameter dropper post. The bottom bracket is BB92. The rear axle is 148x12mm, aka the Boost standard, and that applies to the crank as well. The extra room means you can fit tires up to 2.4” wide between the stays, giving you more tire options and even more suspension flexibility. The bike is designed for single-ring drivetrains only and, as a result, they also built in ISCG-05 bosses for a chain guide. You’ll find molded-on protection at the bottom of the downtube and around the chainstays. The brake mounts are post-style and set up for 180mm rotors.

The Intense Tracer blazes a trail for others to follow.
