Some Specs not as Shown

The S2 already has the reputation for being the ultimate pro bike; not surprising, given its long list of victories. But how about comfort? Truth be told, many frames with aero tubing lack in comfort. But at Cervélo, they have been designing aero bikes since their inception, so they have the most experience in building aero frames without sacrificing the traditional focal points of weight, stiffness, strength and comfort.
This may explain why only the Cervélo TestTeam used aero frames at the early season cobblestone races (including Thor Hushovd’s victory at the semi-Classic Omloop Het Nieuwsblad). While for some races the R-series may still be better, to know that the S2 (and the even more compliant S3) excel even on the cobblestones shows you can have all the usual characteristics of a great frame and aerodynamics on top of it. That’s great news pros and non-pros alike.
DESIGN BENEFITS
TrueAero Tubeset - Lower aerodynamic resistance: TrueAero® tube shapes are designed for the lowest drag at bicycle speeds.
Optimized Smartwall for Carbon Lay-Up - 300 pieces of carbon positioned and spec’d to deliver stiffness, strength, light-weight and comfort resulting in a 25% lighter frame than the S1. By using unidirectional high-modulus carbon on the sides of the aerotubes, lateral stiffness is further optimized.
Stealth Aero Headtube - Narrowing the section between the bearings reduces the frontal area and thereby the aerodynamic resistance (which is linearly related to the frontal area).
TrueAero Tubing
Cervelo now designs their own specific airfoils, and it has led to significant improvements. It’s one of the reasons why they spend weeks and weeks in the windtunnel each year, not hours (if any) as is customary in the industry.
When you have the most and the best engineers working on aerodynamic improvements and you give them more time to play in the windtunnel sand box than anybody else, you end up with faster bikes.
Smartwall Carbon
Patent-pending technology from Cervelo's carbon materials and manufacturing group, Smartwall™ elaborates on the Squoval tubeshape. With the sides far away from the center plane more important, Cervelo concentrates more material there to increase the benefit.
Strips of High and Ultra-high modulus carbon stiffen the sides of the main tubes to resist lateral bending. These strips are feathered in to properly transfer the loads from the joints into these tubes.
Finally, Cervelo adds Kevlar to the headtube/downtube area for industry-leading impact strength.
